Michael Hamm RIP Sept 2010 Michael Hamm
RIP 1st September 2010

W
e were sorry to hear of Michael's sudden death at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral

On Feb 11th 2011 we combined with Hoylake Choral Society in a 'celebration of life' for Michael's friends.  We are very grateful to all those who helped to make it such successful evening - The full programme  - A review of the evening

Michael Hamm joined Birkenhead Choral Society over ten years ago when he moved to live in Wirral on his 'retirement'.  He rapidly became involved not just as a singer but as a Committee member, later Vice Chairman, as a source of immense musical knowledge, as a conductor in emergencies and as a close friend of many.  As well as his love of traditional works he was the inspiration for bringing new challenges to the choir, for example the Kodály Missa Brevis (which many of us thought would be impossible!), and was a champion for new composers and musicians.

In addition to our society Michael was equally involved with Hoylake Choral Society (as Deputy Conductor), and with other local musicians and local churches, notably St Bridget's, West Kirby.

Michael had no close family in the local area but was in regular contact with his sister in Belgium and other more distant family and friends.  He was still a wide traveller and will be missed by his many friends in the wider circle of professional music.  A flavour of his work and experience can be gained by looking at the links below:
